  • DMTF and OpenFabrics Alliance Establish Work Register

As part of DMTF's Alliance Partner program, the organization and the OpenFabrics Alliance (OFA) have agreed to a new work register, which outlines areas of technical collaboration between the two organizations.

The OFA mission is to develop and promote software that enables maximum application efficiency by delivering wire-speed messaging, ultra-low latencies, and maximum bandwidth directly to applications with minimal CPU overhead. It seeks to accelerate the development and adoption of advanced fabrics for the benefit of the advanced networks ecosystem. This is accomplished by: creating opportunities for collaboration among those who develop and deploy such fabrics, incubating and evolving vendor independent open-source software for fabrics, and supporting and promoting the use of such fabrics technology software.

As part of its agreement with DMTF, OFA is launching an effort to design and develop an OpenFabric Management Framework consisting of common APIs and methods to deliver security, provide route management, and maintain optimized performance. The new OpenFabric Management Framework will utilize DMTF’s Redfish standard, and as a goal, provide orchestration. In addition, the Redfish Forum has chartered a Fabrics Task Force to develop a Redfish model for various fabrics. The OFA’s expertise and knowledge in this space will be a crucial part of extending the Redfish standard.

The outcome of the alliance is to release a Redfish update that includes model extensions for managing a variety of fabrics as well as enable OFA to demonstrate a working OpenFabric Management Framework (OFMF) prototype utilizing the Redfish standard.

The work register detailing this Alliance Partner relationship is available here.
